Post by PanamaMikeWell that's not true.
An hour long episode takes 7-9 work days to shoot, depending on the series.
Usually 1-2 days before finishing an episode, during their lunch break, the
cast will do a table read of the next script along with the director of the
upcoming episode.
An "in studio" half hour sitcom does a table read on the first day, followed
by rewrites, rehearses days 2 - 4 and films on day 5.
Very true. The problem with episodics is that they air once a week but
it takes 6 to 8 to shoot them. And the daily schedule gets brutal,
although better than it was. There was a terrible death-car crash-after
a 16 hour day a few years back that woke everyone-mostly-up and daily
schedules have moderated somewhat. But towards the end of the season is
gets very hard.
Sitcoms are easy. 2 days a week for the crew and it's a rare producer
who wants to go into overtime. The crew is paid for 12 hours guranteed
so you work 12 hours. Period.
